A Brief Introduction to Star EV golf carts

Let's travel back. Waaaaaaay back to 2003.

Map of the US pinned on South Carolina

Around 2003, in South Carolina, USA, a bunch of people at a company called JH Global Services had a brilliant idea. They decided to build top-of-the-line electric vehicles (EVs) for various uses, including our favorite, golf carts.

What started with an idea, jumped into production and just like that, the Star EV brand was born!

Star EV entered the scene with a simple mission: To build innovative electric vehicles that customers love. Of course, like every new company, they started with just a few small golf cart models.

But with their goals in mind, they were always looking for ways to make carts better and more accessible. Fast forward to 2023, and these manufacturers will boast an impressive collection of over 50 models.

I'm not sure about you but I'm impressed!

With that many models out on the road, Star EV carts will need their tires replaced which is exactly where this article comes into play!

If you own a Star EV and have questions about what aftermarket golf cart wheels and tires will work with your cart, this article is for you!

We will break down the different Star EV golf cart models and provide quick and easy information about determining what size tire works best for each.

With that introduction out of the way, let's get into it!

What size wheels and tires come on Star EV carts?

Star EV- Capella model

As stated above, Star EV has over 50 different models. Although that is an intimidating number, each model is divided into five categories.

Each of the various models comes standard with different-sized wheel and tire combos. They are as follows:

As you can see, there is plenty of crossover between the categories. Still, each type will have different features or functions to align with the category's purpose/function.

Looking at the above list, the standard wheel size for standard, recreation, or golf carts is either 10" or 12" with an overall diameter size of either 18", 20", or 23".

What size aftermarket wheel can I put on my Star EV?

Black and silver golf cart wheel

With Star EV carts, wheel size is going to be very important.

Depending on your make and model, you may have disc brakes, which impact what size wheel you can and cannot install.

Here is a quick rule of thumb about wheel sizing and disc brakes.

• No disc brakes? ✓

If your Star EV cart does not have disc brakes, you can install a 10" wheel (or larger, depending on your model).

• Disc brakes? ✓

If your cart does have disc brakes, you can install a 12" wheel (or larger, depending on your model).

This difference is because a 10" wheel is too small to fit over the diameter of the brakes. Therefore, a larger wheel is required.

The other option, if you want to stick with a 10" wheel, is to purchase wheel spacers.

Wheel spacers push the wheel outward so that the wheel does not make contact with the brakes.

To make this as easy as possible, the chart below outlines the different models, whether they have disc brakes, and what size wheel and tire combo they can fit.

Remember that this chart does not consider wheel spacers and refers to stock Star EV carts.

Chad,

Thank you for your question. If you have a Sirius 4+2 lifted cart with the factory wheels and tires, your wheel and tire combo is about 23" in overall diameter.

In order to drop a few inches without doing major modifications, you can purchase a smaller wheel and tire combo.

Since your cart has disc brakes, you can only purchase a 12" wheel or larger (no 8" or 10" wheels). The great news is that we have plenty of 12" and 14" wheel and tire combos that have 18" or 20" overall diameters.

Installing one of these combos should drop your cart by a few inches and allow you to get your golf cart into your garage.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you!

I have a Star EV Sirius 4+2 Lifted, but it’s maybe 1.5" too tall to fit in my garage door without 2 adults on the back of the cart. What can I do to reduce the height without cutting the roof uprights?
