Note: When unpacking windshield, do not remove protective covering with a scraper, razor blade or other tool that may scratch the windshield. Only use soap and water when cleaning, DO NOT use windex or other window cleaners as they will damage windshield.  Also, please remove the windshield prior to towing or transporting your golf cart on any major roadways.

What is the difference between AS4 and AS5 DOT compliant Windshields?

AS4 and AS5 are two different standards for DOT compliant golf cart windshields.

Here are the main differences between the two:

  • Impact Resistance: According to industry standards, AS4 windshields can withstand up to 15 foot-pounds of force, while AS5 windshields are designed to withstand 30 foot-pounds. This makes AS5 windshields significantly more impact-resistant than AS4 windshields.
  • Light Transmission: To meet standards, AS4 windshields must allow a minimum of 70% light transmission, while AS5 windshields allow a minimum of 65%. AS4 windshields have a slightly higher level of light transmission compared to AS5 windshields.
  • Surface Hardness: AS4 and AS5 windshields both have surface hardness ratings, with AS5 having a slightly higher H-3 rating than AS4's H-2 rating. This indicates that AS5 is more durable and resistant to scratches than AS4.
  • Testing Procedures: The testing protocols for AS4 and AS5 windshields differ slightly. AS4 windshields undergo testing with a 1-inch steel ball dropped from a height of 50 inches, while AS5 windshields are tested with a 2.25-inch steel ball dropped from a height of 50 inches.
